Works great with Anderson uppers and free-float tubes. Not sure which piece gets the credit here… but when I use Anderson Mfg uppers, barrels and barrel nuts together, they just fall together like a nice time piece. Even with barrels from another manufacturer, I’ve never had to over torque to get gas tube alignment. Buy these with confidence.

So will this work with a none anderson hand guard ??

    • Tom Steffner

It depends on the thread pitch of the forearm

Anderson’s Float Tube is a “Yankee Hill Machine” or YHM *style* barrel nut, YHM provides installation instructions here: https://yhm.net/media/pdf/Install_Freefloat_Tubes.pdf

Four stars only because Anderson doesn’t provide assembly instructions and I had to go looking.

Two tips, you *MUST* liberally apply loctite to the threads for the float tube and let it cure for 24 hours (NOT THE ACTUAL BARREL NUT THREADS, use non-graphite anti-seize compound there).

Alignment can be a bit of a pain, either get a picatinny vice block (YHM-7350), a picatinny alignment tool (Brownell’s), or just do it by eye, the worst that can happen is your front iron might be clocked incorrectly if it’s mounted on the tube.

Loctite the rails too, they will shake free the on your first outing.

You will need an appropriate spanner as shown in the instructions, but you can see online some people get away with using the castle nut spanner, I wouldn’t personally do that.

The NcStar Gen 2 Armorers wrench has a YHM spanner on it as well as all the other standard tools you’ll see.

Great product. I don’t understand why some reviewers give this part a low score when they’re not even technically reviewing the product but are asking questions before they buy. Seems like you’re hurting this great company by being like that.
