Purchased this barrel for my 3rd AR-15 build. I took it to the range and it functioned flawlessly, this barrel cant be beat when considering price & performance.

This barrel is awesome, it fit my upper perfect the Andersen adj. gas block I bought with it fit absolutely perfect. I would recommend this barrel highly. I’m using it for a costume AR build for 3-Gun competition.
I have been using Andersen products for all my builds and there a great product, received items on time or early. Thank you guys you are doing a great job.

Just got the barrel today for my new build. I threw it on with an old scope I had laying around just to try it out, and after about 10 shots I was shooting groups about 0.4 inches at 60 yards with very cheap 55g ammo. Highly recommend this barrel to anyone.

  5. Rated 5 out of 5

Wow 440 yards double tap at 12 inch target.. 100 rounds of pmc 223 great barrel. .

Is this 416 or 416R? Does this shoot both .223 and .556?

    • Tom Steffner

      416R both

Just got my 18in .223 SS straight fluted barrel w/ thread in and super excited to put it on. One note for the website. Under additional info it states this barrel weights 1.25 lbs. I would say the actual weight is closer to 3 lbs. I will let you know how it shoots just as soon as I complete my build.

  10. Rated 4 out of 5

Nice barrel. I still have to assemble the upper and fire it, but I am impressed with the out of box appearance. Tips the scale at 2lbs 11.4oz. FYI

While I’ve owned several ARs, this was my first build. I was going for a “budget build”. Initially I was quite pissed as at 100yds I had 4 8×11 sheets of paper, corner to corner to try to zero. It took 50rds to get it to stay on one piece of paper. Now you’re wondering why 5 stars. After 100 rounds or so I am putting 5rds in 1/2 MOA of M855 consistently. Also at 100 yds consistently destroying clothes pins w 12 power scope. If this barrel continues to ” break in” it will be an insane value. I will be doing a review on YouTube after my next trip to the range.

I purchased your Anderson upper and ready to install the .223 Wylde SS 18″ barrel and was wondering if I should have the head space checked before I hit the range, or am I good to go?

    • Tom Steffner

      Check the head space

Just got my build together with this barrel and a lot of other Anderson parts. Gun functions perfectly. This was my first build and it went smoothly with the Anderson parts. THANKS.

Got this barrel for my AR, its great. At 50 yards with the gun in a vice cutting holes on the target at 100 yards the holes are almost touching. Shooting with handloads

    will this barrel shoot 556?

    • Michael Johnson

      No it will not

  17. Rated 5 out of 5

This .223 wylde chambering should shoot 5.56 Michael Johnson.

    • Michael Johnson

The chambering for the 223 wylde is tighter which could be an issue.

The 5.56 you can shoot both.

  18. Rated 5 out of 5

The 223 Wylde will most definitely shoot the 5.56, just as it was designed to do.

    • Michael Johnson

yes it can just has a tighter chamber

what type of gas block do you need with the SS Wylde 18″ barrel I ordered. Doesn’t state if barrel is dimpled or not?

    • Michael Johnson

the size is .750 for the diameter.
depends on what kind you want.
low, high or standard they will all work.

been a machinist for over 40 years. machining on this barrel is great. very fine tool marks.gas block fit is perfect and was surprised that the barrel was dimpled for the gas block screw. shipping was right on time. can’t wait to try it out.

    • Michael Johnson

      Awesome, glad you like it.
      This means a lot.

Does this come with a thread protector ?

    • Michael Johnson

      no it does not

What can i say this barrel looks great,i cant wait to shoot it.This is my second Anderson build using Anderson striped lower and upper with bolt carrier. The problem is i received a out of spec gas block, i am not to pleased with the turn around time for the proper gas block. Im not sure who i use on my third build.

I been looking for a barrel for my at 15 build and been thinking a 223 wylde, which suppose to be able to shoot both the 223 Remington and the 55.6 one of the question asked was that one of the review was well it shoot the 5.56 your an were was no which is it yes r no? Why the fit for the 5.56 be tight why would it be to tight? My big question is since the 223 wylde to tight then it would be able to fit perfitly in the 5.56 chamber and the 5.66 can shoot all three with no problem with a 1.8 r 1.9 twist ?

The description says the barrel is a heavy barrel and 116. Additional information says it weighs 1.25 lb. Is it considered a heavy barrel at 1.25 lb. and is it 116 or 116r?

    • Michael Johnson

yes the material is 416 stainless

Are the heavy barrels that Anderson Rifles sell engraved with Heavy or HBAR on the barrel? Unfortunately the Republic of Maryland requires this!
    Thank you

    • Tom Steffner

      It is Not

Custom build on this barrel. Fantastic performance! Hitting steel silhouettes at 600 yds with 55grain ammo. Highly recommend and will be building another!

  28. Rated 3 out of 5

Are these barrel 416 or 416R stainless steel? The description says 416, and both the 416 & 416R are mentioned in previous answers to the same question and to the twisted flute barrel, as well. There is a significant difference between 416 & 416R for rifle barrels.

Fit and finish look great however I am having very different experiences with mine. The best group I’ve achieved out of 500 rounds, mostly with 62gr penetrstors at 100 yards off bench is 2 moa and that goes out to 3-3 1/2 moa. This is imi new man ammo and I’ve tried 72gr hornady match and 55gr xtac all with the same outcome, I’ve tried polishing the barrel, slow shooting, fast shooting, bench, bipod, and sandbag. From all of my reading I’m surmising that I have a bad barrel but dealer was informed moa accuracy is not advertised so no swap out.

Due to the inconsistent descriptions and answers to my & others questions (with regard to the type of stainless steel – 416 or 416R; description of the Wylde chamber – which WILL ACCOMMODATE ALL .223 Remington & 5.56 NATO rounds), I opted to buy a similar barrel elsewhere, from a company that makes their own barrels at a very slightly higher price.

Anderson Manufacturing is a great company for their upper & lower receivers, of which I have built multiple AR’s, but their barrels seem to be hit or miss, and the buyer can be left uncertain about what they are truly getting.

I just got my barrel in the mail… desent shipping time. I have not shot it yet but everything looks good, so far I’m happy with this barrel besides one thing….. in the information it states it says it 1.25 lbs… first thing I did when I got it was i weighed… it’s more like 2.5 lbs. One of the reasons I ordered it was because it said it was light. Besides that it all seems to be a pretty soild barrel.

Shot my rifle today and was nailing bowling pins at 100 yards, soild barrel. Besides it weighs double what is advertised

I have recently purchased this barrel from Anderson .223 Wylde 18″ Heavy Barrel, Straight Fluted – Mid Length (stainless). Awesome looking barrel, great price, and service. Looking forward to taking it to the range, will post update on performance.

I have a question though. Does Anderson Mfg. have any recommendations on break in procedure for this barrel.

    Thank you.

    • Michael Johnson

Following is the necessarily barrel break-in procedure to ensure reliable and consistent accuracy from your new rifle or Barrel:

      1. Shoot one round and then clean
Do this for the first ten rounds.

      2. Shoot three rounds and then clean
Do this for the next fifteen rounds.

      3. Shoot five rounds and then clean
      then shoot a fouler round
and then shoot three rounds for accuracy.

NOTE: Allow barrel to cool to ambient temperature before shooting each series of break-in rounds to avoid unnecessary throat erosion. Do not shoot your rifle in succession until the barrel is too hot to touch with a bare hand.

When cleaning, use these simple instructions:
Use a quality one-piece cleaning rod.
      Use a bore guide.
      Clean from chamber end only.

      DO NOT:
Use a stainless Steel bore brush.
Leave strong ammonia cleaning products in your bore for extended periods of time – additionally, do not allow solvents to contact stock as it can remove the finish.
Once the barrel is broken in, remember to clean the barrel after approximately every 20 to 40 rounds to keep accuracy optimal. A dirty bore is a primary cause of poor accuracy.

I’m doing a 90% Anderson build and got this barrel in the other day so I haven’t shot it yet but I will say it’s a beauty, should make a show stopper build. Being Anderson I’m sure it will shot as well as I can.

I waited to make this review because I wanted to put a decent amount of rounds through it first. Since I don’t live near a range, that took some time.
    In a word….”wow.”

I bought this barrel almost 2 years ago and have just shy of 2000 rounds through it. Once I broke it in, I can yell you I have NO issue keeping a >1″ group at 100 yards all day long. The barrel is way more accurate than I am.
I love this barrel. Thanks Anderson.

    • Michael Johnson

      That is awesome to hear.
